The Cocktail Guru on WGBH Boston’s Friday News Quiz

Cocktail Guru Jonathan Pogash along with cocktail consultant Kitty Amman spent some time last week at Boston Public Radio to take part in their Friday News Quiz.

Along with co-hosts Jim Braude and Margery Eagan, the Cocktail Guru team played news quiz games while preparing some festive holiday cocktails!

And check out the recipes that were mixed up on air here:

Maple Daiquiri
2 oz. Mad River maple cask rum
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
1/2 oz. maple syrup
METHOD: Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake well.  Strain into a martini glass.
GARNISH: floating lime wheel
For a large batch of this, I would recommend the following recipe:
(batch recipe to serve approx. 20):
In a punch bowl or large pitcher, add:
1 bottle Mad River maple cask rum
1/2 gal. good quality lilmeade
1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1 cup real maple syrup
METHOD: Add to container and stir well to mix. When ready to serve, add to a shaker and shake – OR – add lots of ice to your punch bowl and stir very well to chill and dilute.  Then ladle out into glasses with ice and lime wheels.
The brand of rum is Mad River.  If your local store doesn’t have it you can ask them to order it.  The distributor is MS Walker.
Mistletoe Martini
1 oz. Edinburgh Christmas Gin
3/4 oz. OM meyer lemon and ginger liqueur
1 oz. cold-pressed cranberry juice (we used a brand called RIPE – available at whole foods)
1/4 oz. cinnamon syrup (we used Monin but you can use any kind of syrup for flavoring coffees – or make your own cinnamon simple syrup)
1 oz. good quality lemonade
METHOD: Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well.  Strain into a martini glass.
GARNISH: fresh mint leaves and cranberries
